Weekly Wrap-Up with Congressman Byron Donalds

Senator Rick Scott’s Week in Review

This week, as Senate Democrats unilaterally pushed through a $5.5 TRILLION tax-and-spending spree that will drive the federal debt to more than $45 TRILLION over the next decade, Senator Rick Scott fought against this wasteful spending, which will further fuel President Biden’s raging inflation crisis and hurt families in Florida and across the nation already struggling to make ends meet.

Over the last week, the failed policies of the Biden administration and Democrats in Congress continued to bring bad news to Florida families:

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CPB) reported encounters with 212,672 illegal immigrants on the U.S. southern border – the most in 20 YEARS.
Inflation has grown every month of Joe Biden’s presidency, making life more and more expensive for American families:
The Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased 5.4% in July – matching the troubling increase reported for the 12-month period ending in June 2021, which was the largest 12-month increase since 2008. Annualized, the monthly CPI growth rate reached 5.9% in July.
The Producer Price Index (PPI) increased 7.8% in July – up significantly from the 7.3% increase reported for the 12-month period ending in June 2021. Annualized, the monthly PPI growth rate in was a staggering 13.1% in July.

Sen. Rick Scott: Democrats’ $5.5 TRILLION Tax-and-Spending Spree Drives America to $45 TRILLION Nightmare

Following Senate Democrats’ passage of their $5.5 TRILLION tax-and-spending spree package without any Republican support. The Democrats’ reckless $5.5 trillion tax-and-spending spree is estimated to drive the federal debt to more than $45,000,000,000,000 by 2031 – a more than $15,000,000,000,000 increase in just 10 years.

This comes as the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) this morning released the latest Consumer Price Index (CPI) data showing that inflation has again risen significantly. Year-over-year, consumer prices increased 5.4% in July – matching the troubling increase reported for the 12-month period ending in June 2021, which was the largest 12-month increase since 2008. Annualized, the monthly CPI growth rate reached 5.9% in July.

Senator Rick Scott said, “Under unified Democrat rule, liberals in Washington have welcomed a socialist agenda that is drowning America in debt, fueling a raging inflation crisis and hiking taxes on Florida families. We know that reckless government spending causes higher inflation – raising prices and making life more expensive for every family, especially those on low and fixed-incomes, like mine growing up. Today’s CPI report shows that President Biden’s inflation crisis rages on, hurting more families every day.

“Bernie Sanders’ budget is driving America toward a $45,000,000,000,000 debt nightmare and killing jobs by hiking taxes that hurt every American family. Our nation can’t afford this socialist nightmare. If the Democrats insist on engaging in this reckless tax-and-spending spree, it’s up to them to own what they’ve done, find the courage to face the American people and raise the debt ceiling the same way they’ve passed this unbelievable spending – without a single Republican vote in support.” Read more HERE.

Sen. Rick Scott: Bernie Sanders’ Budget Puts America’s Children on the Hook for his Socialist Agenda

Senator Rick Scott was joined by Senators Ron Johnson and Mike Lee in a press conference highlighting the massive debt and inflation that will be created by the Democrats’ $5.5 trillion reckless tax-and-spending spree. Senate Democrats released the text of their proposed budget resolution which estimates that their insane spending will drive the federal debt to more than $45,000,000,000,000 by 2031 – a more than $15,000,000,000,000 increase in just 10 years.

Senator Rick Scott said, “Democrats will do anything to push their radical socialist agenda – even if that means hurting our families and small businesses in the process. The massive spending of Joe Biden and Democrats here in Washington is causing unbelievable inflation. Gas is up more than a dollar since last year. Groceries are more expensive. And it’s all caused by reckless government spending. Now, Democrats are doubling down with $5.5 trillion in reckless spending. Their unbalanced budget grows America’s debt to $45 TRILLION. It’s clear that Bernie Sanders controls the Democrat Party and his agenda of systemic socialism, endorsed by Chuck Schumer, Nancy Pelosi and Joe Biden, is in full swing. We can’t afford this. American families facing higher and higher inflation and skyrocketing prices can’t afford this. We have to stop this insane spending that is fueling Joe Biden’s raging inflation crisis and hurting hardworking families.” Watch more in the video HERE.

Senate Unanimously Approves Sen. Rick Scott’s Amendment Stopping Tax Dollars from Benefitting Hamas Terrorists

The United States Senate unanimously adopted Senator Rick Scott’s amendment to the Democrats’ massive $5.5 TRILLION tax-and-spending spree budget bill to stand up for Israel by preventing taxpayer funding from going to Hamas, the Palestinian Islamic Jihad or any other terrorist organization. The amendment would also allow for further sanctions against these terrorist groups.

Senator Rick Scott said, “Earlier this year, we saw Hamas rockets rain down on Israel for 11 straight days. Children, like five-year-old Ido Avigal, died in these attacks. In the face of these tragic attacks, we saw Democrats in Washington stand with Hamas and resist needed action to hold these terrorists accountable. We can’t stop fighting for Israel. We must stand strong with our ally and against the horrific anti-Israel rhetoric. I am proud that the Senate adopted my amendment today to keep U.S. taxpayer dollars out of the hands of Hamas terrorists and allow for more sanctions on those who wish harm to Israel.” Watch more in the video HERE or below.

Sen. Rick Scott Fighting for Florida Families, Against Wasteful Spending in Democrats’ $5.5 Trillion Tax-and-Spending Spree

Senator Rick Scott announced several amendments to the Democrats’ massive and reckless $5.5 trillion tax-and-spending spree which is estimated to drive the federal debt to more than $45,000,000,000,000 by 2031 – a more than $15,000,000,000,000 increase in just 10 years. Senator Scott has been clear that the Democrats’ reckless spending is throwing gas on President Biden’s raging inflation crisis, and only serves to fulfill their liberal wish list by adding to our nation’s nearly $30 trillion federal debt and raising taxes on American families.

Senator Rick Scott said, “Families in Florida and across our nation are struggling with higher prices on gas, groceries and everyday goods thanks to President Biden’s raging inflation crisis and Democrats’ socialist agenda of handouts and reckless spending. We know that reckless government spending fuels inflation, but even as America nears $30 trillion in debt, President Biden, Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi are letting Bernie Sanders lead them in $5.5 trillion in even more reckless spending. Bernie Sanders’ budget puts American families on the hook for his socialist agenda, further fueling inflation as it grows America’s debt to $45 TRILLION over the coming decade.

“The Democrats have made clear that they don’t care about the impacts of their spending on American families – if it takes higher taxes, even more inflation and crippling federal debt that mortgages the futures of our kids and grandkids, Democrats say, ‘so be it.’ We can’t afford this and families can’t afford even more inflation. We need to make Washington work for Florida families. That’s why I am fighting for amendments to protect families from rising inflation and tax hikes, hold Congress and the Biden administration accountable for its reckless spending and put America on a sustainable path for future success.” Read more HERE.

Senators Rick Scott, Ron Johnson and Colleagues Commit to Not Raising Debt Ceiling for Democrats’ $5.5 Trillion Tax-and-Spending Spree

Yesterday, Senator Rick Scott joined Senator Ron Johnson and more than 40 of their colleagues in a letter promising they will not vote to increase the debt ceiling. Senator Scott has been demanding that Congress take action to get America’s nearly $30 trillion federal debt under control and urging his colleagues to refuse to increase the debt ceiling without also enacting true spending reform, like his Federal Debt Emergency Control Act. Sen. Rick Scott: Biden’s Inflation Crisis Fueled by Democrats’ Radical Tax-and-Spending Spree

Following the latest Producer Price Index (PPI) release from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), Senator Rick Scott released the below statement demanding President Joe Biden address the inflation crisis created under his administration. July’s PPI data shows that there has been a notable and sustained increase in inflation every month of Biden’s presidency.

Year over year, producer prices increased 7.8% in July – a rise from the 7.3% increase reported for the 12-month period ending in June 2021 and the largest 12-month increase since 12-month data were first calculated in 2010. Annualized, the monthly PPI growth rate reached 13.1% in July.

Senator Rick Scott said, “Inflation has gone up every month of Biden’s presidency thanks to insane government spending. Families in Florida and across the nation are struggling to make ends meet as the prices of everyday goods go up. But instead of addressing Biden’s inflation crisis, Democrats in Washington have decided the answer is MORE reckless spending. Yesterday, Senate Democrats unilaterally pushed through a $5.5 trillion tax-and-spending spree that will drive the federal debt to more than $45 TRILLION by 2031. It’s time Biden admits that his party’s liberal wish list is destroying our nation, and it’s time he does something about it.” Read more HERE.

Sen. Rick Scott in the Wall Street Journal: Bernie Sanders Ushering in Unprecedented Era of Taxing, Spending & Government Control

Senator Rick Scott wrote a letter to the editor of the Wall Street Journal in response to Senate Budget Chairman Bernie Sanders’ recent op-ed, Why We Need the $3.5 Trillion Reconciliation Package.

In the letter to the editor, Senator Rick Scott wrote, “We need structural reforms to improve the lives of U.S. families,’ writes Sen. Sanders. I couldn’t agree more. Where my Democratic colleague and I differ greatly is on what structural reform looks like.

The structural reform Americans truly need is for government to get out of the way and out of their lives. We need to cut taxes and regulations to spur job growth and innovation.

We need to stop the reckless spending. It has led to runaway inflation, surging prices and unsustainable levels of national debt.

Mr. Sanders wants to usher in an unprecedented era of government taxing, spending and control. We can’t let it happen.”

Senator Rick Scott News Alert!

NEWS ALERT!

Rising Inflation, Wasteful Government Spending Hurts Florida Families

Washington’s wasteful spending means the nation’s federal debt is nearly $30 TRILLION.

Under the Biden administration, inflation has grown every month. Senator Rick Scott has been clear that the Biden administration needs to take responsibility for its reckless spending and develop a plan to curb the impacts of rising inflation on American families. Senator Rick Scott has fought for immediate action and spending reform and recently introduced the Federal Debt Emergency Control Act to rein in Washington’s out-of-control spending.

Since being elected to the U.S. Senate, Senator Scott has repeatedly urged action to address America’s debt crisis. He will continue to fight against reckless spending that is fueling the raging inflation crisis hurting American families — especially poor families like his growing up.

Sen. Rick Scott: The “Infrastructure” Bill Will Only Grow America’s Inflation Crisis

Senator Rick Scott joined his colleagues in a press conference to discuss how the $1.2 trillion “infrastructure” package the Senate is currently considering is not fully paid for, and how reckless government spending drives inflation, hurting families in Florida and across the nation.

Senator Rick Scott said, “I support spending on real infrastructure, like roads, bridges, airports and seaports. When I was governor of Florida, we invested $85 billion in real infrastructure. I think we should make big investments at the federal level too, but it has to be fully paid for with real money. I was told this bill was going to be fully paid for, but it’s not. The American people are already feeling the pressure of rising inflation and are having to change their buying habits. We have to stop this reckless spending and live within our means. This bill is not paid for, and that’s wrong.”

Sen. Rick Scott on “Infrastructure” CBO Score: The American People Deserve Better

Following the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) releasing its analysis of the Senate’s proposed $1.2 TRILLION “infrastructure” spending bill, Senator Rick Scott released the below statement.

Senator Rick Scott said, “Last night, Senate Democrats blocked my proposal to ensure reckless government spending does not increase inflation and raise prices even higher for American families. Now, we see in this new CBO report that the proposed ‘infrastructure’ spending bill, which isn’t paid for, will add $256 BILLION to our national deficit, further fueling President Biden’s inflation crisis. I fully support spending on infrastructure. We did it when I was Governor of Florida and we should do it at the federal level – but it has to be paid for. We can’t forget, this is just the first part of Senator Schumer’s $5.5 TRILLION tax and spending spree. We cannot afford this reckless spending. Florida families cannot afford even more inflation and higher prices. The American people deserve better.”

Sen. Rick Scott Leads Colleagues in Rule Change to Expose the Impacts of Reckless Government Spending on Inflation

Senators Rick Scott, Jim Risch, Thom Tillis, Roger Marshall, Marco Rubio and Joni Ernst introduced an amendment to the Senate Rules to require that all bills passed by Senate committees include inflationary impact statements so Americans can see the true impacts of government spending. Congressman Jim Banks introduced the companion bill in the House last month.

Senator Rick Scott said, “American families are worried about growing inflation. I’ve heard countless stories from families across Florida that are having to cut back on purchases because of rising costs. We know that reckless government spending causes inflation, but President Biden and the Democrats have absolutely no plans to slow down spending or get our debt under control. It’s shameful and I won’t just stand by while they try to drive our nation further into the ground with these horrible policies. Congress must get real about the true cost on every American family that this recklessness brings and start spending responsibly. That’s why I’m introducing a proposed rule change in the Senate today to require every piece of legislation passed by a committee to include a report on how it will impact inflation. The American people deserve to know how their tax dollars are being spent and each bill’s impact on inflation. I look forward to my colleagues supporting this measure to increase spending transparency.”

Democrats Block Sen. Rick Scott Proposal to Expose the Impacts of Reckless Government Spending on Inflation

Senator Rick Scott asked for unanimous consent on the Senate floor to pass his amendment to require that all bills passed by the Senate committees include inflationary impact statements so Americans can see the true impacts of government spending. Senate Democrats blocked its passage. Congressman Jim Banks introduced the companion bill in the House last month.

Sen. Rick Scott and The Heritage Foundation Launch ‘Road Trip on a Budget’ Video Series to Highlight Washington’s Debt Crisis

Senator Rick Scott and The Heritage Foundation announced a new video short series: Road Trip on a Budget. This new series highlights Washington’s nearly $30 trillion debt crisis and what it means for American families. Senator Scott is working to rein in Washington’s out-of-control spending and provide a concrete path forward to tackle the nation’s debt, including his Federal Debt Emergency Control Act to start paying down the debt and hold Congress accountable for its awful spending habits.

Senator Rick Scott said, “America is in a debt crisis thanks to decades of wasteful Washington spending. As our national debt nears $30 trillion, we are seeing substantial increases in inflation, which means the prices of every day goods are going up for families in Florida and across the nation. Government shouldn’t work this way. We can get this spending and debt under control and make sure that our debt doesn’t continue to stack up without accountability. It’s all up to us, and I’m proud to partner with the Heritage Foundation for a new series: Road Trip on a Budget, to highlight how we can work together to put America back on a fiscally responsible path forward. Tune in!”

Sen. Rick Scott: Congress Cannot Increase the Debt Ceiling Without Major Spending Reform

Senator Rick Scott released the following statement demanding Congress take action to get America’s nearly $30 trillion federal debt under control and urging his colleagues to refuse to increase the debt ceiling without also enacting true spending reform. For months, Senator Scott has been warning of the dangerous consequences of Washington’s reckless spending and the nation’s rapidly growing debt. The Congressional Budget Office released a report highlighting the dire nature of the federal debt crisis.

Senator Rick Scott said, “America’s nearly $30 TRILLION debt crisis cannot be ignored. Today, I am urging every member of Congress to protect the fiscal security of our nation by refusing to increase the debt ceiling unless it is accompanied by true structural spending reform. We must end the reckless waste of taxpayer dollars.

“We need real spending reform before we consider increasing the debt ceiling. We need reform like my Federal Debt Emergency Control Act, which prevents Washington politicians from mindlessly spending by requiring that two-thirds of the Senate vote to increase the debt before approving any bill. This isn’t political, it’s good government and it’s commonsense. Every fiscally responsible Republican and Democrat should be focused on the debt crisis before us. We cannot allow Congress to continue mortgaging the futures of our children and grandchildren.”

Sen. Rick Scott: Biden’s Reckless Spending Spree Could Cost American Taxpayers More than $5 Trillion

Senator Rick Scott released the below statement following an analysis by the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget showing that the Democrats’ spending plan could cost between $5 trillion and $5.5 trillion over 10 years – far more than the $3.5 trillion in spending they are advertising. For months, Senator Scott has been warning that reckless spending pushed by President Joe Biden and Washington Democrats is causing growing inflation, rising prices on everyday goods, which hurts all American families and is especially devastating to those on low and fixed-incomes.

Senator Rick Scott said, “President Joe Biden and Washington Democrats led by Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi will stop at nothing to jam their reckless tax-and-spend proposals through Congress. President Biden and the Democrats don’t care that wasteful government spending causes inflation, which is hurting families across our country. Now we find out that the massive $3.5 TRILLION spending spree, funded by higher taxes on American families, is actually going to cost taxpayers as much as $5.5 TRILLION over the next decade. That is insane, but Biden and the Democrats don’t care. The only thing that matters to the White House, Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi is appeasing the radical left by fulfilling its insane socialist wish list that increases government dependency and drowns our nation in even more debt.

“We know America can’t afford this. We know that this isn’t what families in Florida want. There is a day of reckoning coming if we don’t get our fiscal house in order, and I will keep fighting every day to rein in the reckless spending that threatens the future of our children and grandchildren.”

Sen. Rick Scott to Secretary Yellen: With Debt Limit Suspension Expiring, Americans Deserve Transparency on U.S. Debt Crisis

As Democrats in Congress continue to fuel America’s debt crisis with reckless and wasteful spending, Senator Rick Scott wrote to Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen requesting details on the Biden administration’s plans to address the nation’s out-of-control, nearly $30 trillion national debt. With the current suspension of the federal debt limit set to expire on July 31, the administration continues to withhold critically important information from Congress and the American people about the state of our government’s finances.

Sen. Rick Scott Introduces Federal Debt Emergency Control Act to Fight Washington’s Spending & Debt Crisis

Senator Rick Scott led Senators Ted Cruz, Mike Braun, Marsha Blackburn, Ron Johnson, John Barrasso, Joni Ernst and Tommy Tuberville in introducing the Federal Debt Emergency Control Act to rein in Washington’s out-of-control spending and provide a concrete path forward to tackle the nation’s nearly $30 trillion debt. The Federal Debt Emergency Control Act is endorsed by the National Taxpayers Union, the Council for Citizens Against Government Waste, Americans for Tax Reform, Americans for Prosperity, FreedomWorks, and Club for Growth.

The Federal Debt Emergency Control Act:

Requires the Office of Management and Budget to declare a “Federal Debt Emergency” in any fiscal year where the federal debt exceeds 100% of that year’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
This emergency designation would trigger several provisions to help control and reduce the federal debt to levels below 100% of GDP, including:
Terminating any unobligated funding from the American Rescue Plan Act, and any previous stimulus bills, and sending it back to the Treasury General Fund immediately for deficit reduction.
Requiring all legislation that increases the federal deficit, as determined by the Congressional Budget Office, to carry its own offsets. If it does not, the legislation shall be considered out of order and will require at least two-thirds of all Senators to vote to increase federal debt before even being able to consider the bill.
Fast-tracking any legislation that would reduce the federal deficit by at least 5 percent over ten years.
Senator Rick Scott said, “America is in a debt crisis. Our nation is barreling toward $30 trillion in debt – an unimaginable $233,000 in debt for every family in America. It’s a crisis caused by decades of wasteful and reckless spending by Washington politicians. Now, President Biden is continuing this way of governing by pushing for trillions in wasteful spending, raising the U.S. federal debt by 60% to $39 trillion and the debt-to-GDP ratio to 117% in 2030, the highest level ever recorded in American history. Spending beyond our means has consequences. We’re already seeing rising inflation, which disproportionately hurts the poorest families, like mine growing up.

“That’s why today, I am leading my colleagues in introducing the Federal Debt Emergency Control Act to rein in Washington’s out of control spending. This includes preventing Washington politicians from mindlessly spending by requiring that two-thirds of the Senate vote to increase the debt before approving any bill. I look forward to every fiscally responsible Republican and Democrat working with me to quickly pass the Federal Debt Emergency Control Act.”

Sen. Rick Scott, FGA President in Tampa Bay Times: Approaching debt limit deadline presents golden opportunity for fiscal responsibility

Senator Rick Scott and Foundation for Government Accountability (FGA) President and CEO Tarren Bragdon wrote an op-ed for the Tampa Bay Times on how Senator Scott’s Federal Debt Emergency Control Act can rein in Washington’s out-of-control spending and provide a concrete path forward to tackle the nation’s nearly $30 trillion debt.

Sens. Rick Scott, Cynthia Lummis in Fox News: Our national debt is almost $30 trillion – let conservative states lead on reducing it

Senators Rick Scott and Cynthia Lummis wrote an op-ed on how Washington’s status quo of reckless and wasteful spending, which is leading our nation to $30 trillion in debt and rising inflation, isn’t working. In their op-ed, Senators Scott and Lummis detail what must be done to address America’s debt crisis and how their legislation, the Pay Down the Debt Act, will help fix it.

In the op-ed, Senators Rick Scott and Cynthia Lummis wrote, “With our national debt nearing a staggering $30 trillion, one would think that President Joe Biden would be ready to take a hard look at our spending and find ways to reduce it. Instead, in the just over 100 days that Joe Biden has been president, he’s proposed more than $6 trillion in new spending.

Even more troubling is that Biden refuses to address the basic question we and many Americans keep asking: ‘How do you plan to pay for all of this, Joe?’

We know that Biden can’t tax his way out of his own massive spending problem – but that won’t stop him from trying. His proposed tax increases would do more to wreck our economy than pay this tab. Clearly, something must change.

It is up to all of us to do our part to reduce the national debt.

As part of our commitment to taxpayers in our home states of Florida and Wyoming, as well as the entire nation, we’ve just introduced legislation to change the status quo.

Our bill, the Pay Down the Debt Act, would prevent any federal grant funds refused by a fiscally responsible state government from going to another state. Instead, our bill would require those funds to go to reduce our national debt.

Fiscally conservative citizens and elected officials must do everything in our power to reverse the direction of our deficit and debt spending. The future of our children and grandchildren depend on our actions.

This legislation is a real step to start reining in spending and reducing our debt.

For every dollar this legislation saves today, it is one less one that we have to pay back tomorrow.”

Senator Rick Scott’s Week in Review

This week, as the Senate considered the massive $1.2 trillion “infrastructure” package, Senator Rick Scott continued to fight for Florida families, especially those on low and fixed-incomes, like his growing up. Throughout the week, Senator Scott highlighted President Biden’s raging inflation crisis, caused by Democrats’ reckless tax-and-spending spree that is increasing prices even more for American families.

Senator Scott also introduced several amendments to the “infrastructure” package to ensure accountability to Florida families. Senator Scott’s amendments focused on making sure the $1.2 trillion bill is fully paid for, protecting Florida’s seniors from needless cuts to Medicare to pay for roads and ensuring that this and all legislation introduced in Congress will not increase inflation and hurt American families.

Senator Scott supports investing in infrastructure, just as he did as Governor of Florida, but has been clear that it must be paid for and not add to America’s nearly $30 trillion federal debt crisis, which is driving higher inflation. See more from Senator Scott’s press conference this week HERE or below.

Sen. Rick Scott & Colleagues: Infrastructure Package Isn’t Paid For; We Won’t Support Increases to Federal Debt

Senators Rick Scott, Marsha Blackburn, Mike Braun, Ted Cruz, Josh Hawley, Ron Johnson and Mike Lee released the following statement regarding the insufficient pay-fors in the 2,700 page, $1.2 trillion “infrastructure” bill:

“We can’t spend money we don’t have. Period. Just look at what is happening with inflation. We were promised this infrastructure bill was fully paid for, and now we see that it’s not. This was nothing more than a bait and switch. $205 billion of this bill was to be paid for with re-purposed COVID funds. The latest proposal only shows $50 billion in COVID funds being used, as well as a lot of the proposed ‘pay-fors’ missing. So we are asking our colleagues: how is this infrastructure spending bill being paid for? We still don’t know. We still don’t have a score on this legislation from the Congressional Budget Office. Let’s not forget, this is just the first step in the Democrats’ plan to pass their $5.5 trillion tax and spend liberal wish list. We support infrastructure, but it has to be paid for. This proposal isn’t it.” Read more HERE.

Sen. Rick Scott Fighting for Florida Families in Senate Infrastructure Package

Senator Rick Scott announced several amendments to the Senate’s “infrastructure” package that he will introduce to protect Florida families by ensuring the $1.2 trillion package is fully paid for and that Congress is accountable to American taxpayers.

Senator Rick Scott said, “I support spending on real infrastructure, like roads, bridges, airport and seaports, but it has to be fully paid for with real money. We did it when I was Governor of Florida and we can do it in Washington. It’s time Congress acknowledges that spending hundreds of billions of dollars we don’t have threatens the future of our nation. This infrastructure spending bill is the gateway to President Biden and the Democrats’ massive $5.5 trillion tax and spend proposal that will destroy our nation’s success. Reckless government spending is already causing out of control inflation across the nation. We have to start acting responsibly, which is why I’m introducing amendments to make sure the spending in this bill is fully paid for and that it will not increase inflation on hardworking Floridians.” Read more HERE.

Sen. Rick Scott: The “Infrastructure” Bill Will Only Grow America’s Debt Crisis

Senator Rick Scott joined his colleagues in a press conference to discuss how the $1.2 trillion “infrastructure” package the Senate is currently considering is not fully paid for, and how reckless government spending drives inflation, hurting families in Florida and across the nation.

The American people deserve better.” Read more HERE.

Sen. Rick Scott & Cuban Leaders: We Can’t Wait; Biden Must Lead the World in Support of Freedom in Cuba

Senator Rick Scott and leaders of the Cuban diaspora in Florida released a video denouncing the atrocities the illegitimate communist Cuban regime is committing against its people, and calling on the Biden administration to take immediate action to support the fight for freedom and democracy on the island. The video features Rosa María Payá, daughter of the freedom fighter Oswaldo Payá and Director of Cuba Decide, Sylvia Iriondo, Director of MAR for Cuba, Orlando Gutierrez-Boronat, Coordinator of the Assembly of the Cuban Resistance, and Jorge Antunez, former political prisoner and human rights activist.

Senator Rick Scott said, “The communist Cuban regime is terrified of the freedom movement, so they are trying to hide this fight from the world. Now more than ever, the Biden administration must stand up and lead the world in support of freedom and democracy in Cuba, restore cellular and internet service to the island, impose further sanctions on the illegitimate communist regime and stop the failed appeasement policies that only benefit the regime and its cronies. We can’t waste one more minute.” See more in the video HERE or below.

Sen. Rick Scott Issues Weekly Update on Biden’s Inflation Crisis

Senator Rick Scott released a weekly update on his actions to address America’s debt crisis and rising inflation. As the wasteful, reckless spending of the Biden administration and congressional Democrats leads to growing inflation and rising prices of every day goods, Senator Scott is urging the president to end his failed economic policies and address rising inflation on American families. Sen. Rick Scott in Miami Herald: Democrats must heed the failures of communism in Cuba

Senator Rick Scott wrote an op-ed for the Miami Herald calling on President Biden to join him in support of the Cuban people fighting for freedom and democracy against the illegitimate communist Cuban regime. Senator Scott is urging the President to abandon the Obama/Biden-era appeasement policies and socialist rhetoric of his party to help bring a new day of freedom to Cuba.

In the op-ed, Senator Rick Scott wrote, “The peaceful demonstrations we’ve seen across Cuba in recent days – the largest the island has seen in decades – are terrifying the brutal communist regime. The Cuban people are marching in the streets and crying out against the illegitimate, communist rule that has stripped them of their freedom, liberty and basic human rights and dignity for more than 60 years. The message is clear: it is time for a new day of freedom and democracy in Cuba.

Now, President Biden has the opportunity to go further, fully abandon the failed appeasement polices of the Obama administration and lead Democrats in the U.S. to denounce the evils of these political systems. President Biden knows socialist governments only bring suffering, and that appeasement of dictators does not induce reform. But even as members of his party are echoing Cuban communist propaganda, he can chart a different path.

Amid these horrors, President Biden must steer his party in the right direction. Castro sympathizers are walking the halls of Congress and arguing for full government control of multiple industries. They are pushing an agenda of systemic socialism. They want to defund the police and indoctrinate our kids in Marxist ideologies that divide people by skin color and train them to hate each other. For these so-called “democratic socialists” the more dependent the American people are on government, the better.

Today, there is only one path forward for the United States – the full, unapologetic and unequivocal support of the brave Cuban people fighting for a new day of freedom. President Biden has the opportunity to separate himself from the appeasement policies of the Obama administration, to stand up to the ‘Socialist Squad’ and support freedom for the Cuban people.

The time for ’libertad!’ in Cuba is now. The terrified Cuban regime must listen to the cries for freedom and abandon the socialist ideology which has left the Cuban people’s nation in ruin. The Democrat Party, led by President Biden, must do the same.”

Democrats Block Sen. Rick Scott Proposal to Expose the Impacts of Reckless Government Spending on Inflation

Senator Rick Scott asked for unanimous consent on the Senate floor yesterday to pass his amendment to require that all bills passed by Senate committees include inflationary impact statements so Americans can see the true impacts of government spending. Senate Democrats blocked its passage. Congressman Jim Banks introduced the companion bill in the House last month.

See more from his speech on the Senate floor HERE or in the Fox Business article, Senate votes against GOP resolution requiring analysis on how all spending, tax bills will impact inflation, below:

“Senate Republicans on Wednesday evening hoped to pass a resolution requiring all spending and tax-related legislation to included analyses on how they will impact inflation, but it did not get enough votes.

Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., introduced the rule change — which was first presented to the House in May by Republican Indiana Rep. Jim Banks, chairman of the Republican Study Committee — on July 28 as a resolution to President Biden’s bipartisan $1.2 trillion infrastructure package amid concerns of rising inflation.

‘Over the weekend, the suspension on the federal debt ceiling expired, and that leaves Congress with two choices: Continue this reckless, wasteful spending with no accountability to the American people, or start making the tough choices to put America on a successful path,’ Scott said Wednesday as he called for unanimous consent to pass the resolution, which received 52 out of 60 votes needed.

The resolution, S. Res. 327, would require the Congressional Budget Office to determine a spending bill’s impact on inflation in committee reports.

The Florida senator added that the resolution would help ‘those living on fixed incomes, low-income earners and small businesses who can’t absorb cost increases.’

Scott responded saying he would not support ‘anything that increases inflation on American families.’”

Senator Rick Scott’s Week in Review

This week, as Democrats in Congress pushed trillions in deficit spending on “infrastructure” with no accountability to American taxpayers, Senator Rick Scott spoke on the Senate floor on how the reckless tax-and-spending spree is causing rising inflation and hurting American families. Senator Scott also led several of his colleagues in a press conference on how Congress can work to get government spending under control, including passing his Federal Debt Emergency Control Act to require that two-thirds of the Senate vote to increase the debt before approving any bill with deficit spending, and his amendment to the Senate Rules to require that all committee reports include inflationary impact statements so Americans can see the true impacts of government spending. Watch his speech HERE or below.

Sen. Rick Scott & Colleagues: Trillion-Dollar Infrastructure Package Continues Washington’s Insane Deficit Spending

Senators Rick Scott, Mike Lee, Ron Johnson, Ted Cruz, Josh Hawley, Marsha Blackburn and Mike Braun released the following statement on the $1.2 trillion infrastructure package announced this week:

“Congress can’t keep spending trillions of dollars we don’t have. The infrastructure package announced today continues the trend in Congress of insane deficit spending. Let’s not forget, this is just the first step in the Democrats’ plan to pass their $5.5 trillion tax and spend liberal wish list. Our nation is facing a nearly $30 TRILLION federal debt crisis. There are real infrastructure needs across the country. But, with growing inflation and many families struggling to financially recover from the events of the last year, it is not wise to throw fuel on the fire that is the raging inflation crisis and labor shortage we are seeing across America.

“Needless to say, we will not support this legislation.” Read more HERE.

Sen. Rick Scott on the Senate Floor: Biden’s Inflation is Hurting Families

Senator Rick Scott spoke on the Senate floor on how Democrats’ reckless tax-and-spending spree is causing rising inflation and hurting American families. Senator Scott also led several of his colleagues in a press conference today on how Congress can work to get government spending under control, including passing his Federal Debt Emergency Control Act to require that two-thirds of the Senate vote to increase the debt before approving any bill with deficit spending, and his amendment to the Senate Rules to require that all committee reports include inflationary impact statements so Americans can see the true impacts of government spending.

Senator Rick Scott said, “Biden and the Democrats say they care about Americans – but they have done absolutely nothing to help families struggling to keep up with inflation. We are nearly $30 TRILLION in debt, but Democrats have no plans to slow down their spending. Now, Biden and the Democrats want to spend another $5.5 trillion on their liberal priorities, with no consideration to how this might impact families. Their message to the American people is clear: they don’t care about inflation. They don’t care that their reckless spending is causing prices to skyrocket. If that’s the cost of getting their liberal wish list, so be it. It’s time to wake up and take action to get government spending under control – our children and grandchildren are depending on it.” See more in his speech HERE or below.

Sen. Rick Scott, Leader McCarthy and Colleagues Request Meeting with President Biden on Cuba

Senator Rick Scott joined House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy, Senator Marco Rubio, Representatives Mario Diaz-Balart, Carlos Gimenez, Maria Elvira Salazar and other members of Congress in a letter to President Biden requesting a meeting as soon as possible to discuss how the White House and Congress can work together to end the oppressive Cuban regime and support the Cuban people’s fight for freedom and democracy. Sen. Rick Scott at Cuba Libre Rally: Where is Joe Biden?

Senator Rick Scott joined House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy and several of his colleagues at American Conservative Union’s Cuba Libre Rally to stand with the brave freedom fighters in Cuba and demand action from the Biden administration.

Senator Rick Scott said, “The United States stands with the heroic freedom fighters across Cuba denouncing communism and saying ENOUGH to the brutal Castro Regime. The oppression must end now. President Biden’s time to review Cuba policy is over. Appeasement is over. Where is Joe Biden? Biden needs to immediately shut down the illegitimate Cuban Embassy and expel all regime thugs disguised as diplomats. Biden needs to implement all technology to facilitate the free flow of information to and from the island. He needs to show up. I’m proud to stand with the brave people of Cuba and won’t stop fighting until we see a new day of freedom for Cuba.” Read more HERE.

Sen. Rick Scott to Biden & Harris: Communist Cuba is Major Cause of Instability in Latin America

Senator Rick Scott issued the below statement following the release of the White House’s new report, Strategy to Address the Root Causes of Migration in Central America, which completely fails to mention the influence of the illegitimate communist Cuban regime on instability in Latin America. Earlier this week, Senator Scott pressed Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas on when the Biden administration will address the Cuban regime’s violence against its people and actions to create instability throughout Latin America.

Senator Rick Scott said, “The Biden administration’s utter failure to address the massive border crisis it created is remarkable. First, President Biden fueled his border crisis with failed policies of open borders and amnesty – driving apprehensions at the border to record highs. Now, Vice President Harris, the so-called ‘Border Czar,’ has again missed the mark in her new report. The illegitimate communist Cuban regime is undermining democracy throughout Latin America, yet Harris’ report doesn’t mention Cuba once. As the communist Cuban regime continues to prop up the dictatorships of Maduro in Venezuela, Ortega in Nicaragua and narco-terrorists throughout the region, it spreads its tyranny, oppression and violence like wildfire. Biden and Harris need to wake up. Continuing to ignore the facts will do nothing but bring more suffering to families in Latin America and across the United States as their border crisis rages on.” Read more HERE.

Sen. Rick Scott and The Heritage Foundation Release Episodes 3 and 4 in ‘Road Trip on a Budget’ Video Series

Senator Rick Scott released the third and fourth episode of Road Trip on a Budget, his video short series in partnership with The Heritage Foundation. Episode 3 highlights how Washington’s reckless spending is causing rising inflation, which means the prices of every day goods are going up for families in Florida and across the nation. Episode 4 discusses how Congress can work to rein in wasteful spending and why we must fight Democrats’ tax-and-spending spree agenda to put America back on a strong fiscal path. See previous Road Trip on a Budget episodes HERE and HERE.

Senator Rick Scott said, “Reckless government spending has driven America’s federal debt to nearly $30 trillion. Now, thanks to the insane tax-and-spending spree of President Joe Biden and Democrats in Washington, we are seeing six straight months of raging inflation. It’s time to face reality, ditch these foolish and wasteful multi-trillion dollar plans and protect American families from rising inflation. With the debt ceiling suspension expiring this week, on July 31, we need real spending reform, like my Federal Debt Emergency Control Act, before we consider raising the debt ceiling. We cannot allow Congress to continue mortgaging the futures of our children and grandchildren.” Read more HERE.

Ahead of Debt Ceiling Suspension Expiration, Sen. Rick Scott and The Heritage Foundation Release Final Episode in ‘Road Trip on a Budget’ Video Series

Senator Rick Scott released the final episode of Road Trip on a Budget, his video short series in partnership with The Heritage Foundation. In the final episode, Senator Scott discusses how, as Governor of Florida, he worked to completely turn Florida’s economy around by cutting taxes and regulations and supporting job growth. Senator Scott uses Florida’s success story to show how Washington should model Florida’s playbook to rein in wasteful spending and put America back on a strong fiscal path. See previous Road Trip on a Budget episodes HERE, HERE, HERE and HERE.

Senator Rick Scott said, “Congress has ignored the consequences of reckless spending, like raging inflation which increases the price of living for American families, for too long. The American people deserve better. With the current debt ceiling suspension expiring this weekend, our ‘Road Trip on a Budget’ series highlights how Washington got to nearly $30 trillion in debt, but more importantly, shows that we can get this spending under control. We have to stop spending recklessly on things we don’t need and invest in the things we do. We need to make government more efficient, cut taxes, reduce regulations and focus on creating an economy where businesses can thrive and create more jobs for American families. That’s the playbook. It worked in Florida and it will work for the entire nation.” Watch the final episode HERE or below.

I look forward to my colleagues supporting this measure to increase spending transparency.” Read more HERE.

Sen. Rick Scott: No Excuse for Biden’s Inaction on Moving the 2022 Olympic Games out of Communist China

As the 2020 Olympics Games continue, Senator Rick Scott released the following statement reiterating his call for a meeting with President Biden to discuss the horrific human rights atrocities occurring across Communist China and the Senator’s continued calls for the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to select a new site for the 2022 Winter Olympic Games.

Senator Scott also introduced a resolution in February calling on IOC to move the 2022 Winter Olympics out of Communist China and rebid it to another country unless Beijing immediately addresses its egregious and numerous violations of human rights.

Senator Rick Scott said, “It’s been five months since I asked President Biden for a meeting to discuss my call to move the 2022 Olympic Games out of Communist China. Since my request he’s been totally silent. It’s shameful. As our nation watches the 2020 Olympic Games and cheers on our great athletes competing on the world stage, we can’t ignore the fact that in just seven months, the International Olympic Committee is choosing to host the games in Communist China – which is committing a genocide against the Uyghurs. President Biden has immense power to help facilitate the relocation of the games, and is refusing to do anything. He’s ignored my calls and he’s choosing to ignore General Secretary Xi’s horrific human rights abuses. If Biden truly stands for human rights, he will take the meeting with me and immediately begin this process by offering to host the games in the United States and providing the necessary federal resources to get this done. There’s no excuse.” Read more HERE.

Sen. Rick Scott to CDC & Biden Administration: Vaccine Mandates Are Latest Attempt to Try to Control Americans

Senator Rick Scott released the below statement following news that President Biden is mandating vaccines for federal employees and contractors.

Senator Rick Scott said, “Democrats think government knows better than you about what is good for your family. That’s wrong. I got the vaccine, and encourage everyone to get it, but that is a decision Americans get to make. It’s none of government’s business. This is about personal freedoms and we all need to stand up against this gross overreach.” Read more HERE.

Sen. Rick Scott: Buying American Supports U.S. Jobs, Shuts Out Communist China

In recognition and support of the annual Made In America Week, Senator Rick Scott released the following statement calling on all American families and businesses to support our local and national economies by buying U.S.-made products. Last year, the U.S. Senate passed Senator Rick Scott’s bipartisan “Buy American” resolution calling on Americans to support U.S. businesses and jobs by buying products made in America, from any American manufacturer.

Senator Rick Scott said, “As we celebrate this year’s Made In America Week, I encourage all Americans to support their local communities, our great small businesses and American jobs by buying products made here in the USA. While I’m glad to see President Biden continue this tradition, if he really cared about American families and jobs, he’d abandon his job-killing agenda and out-of-control tax and spend spree that’s bankrupting our nation and leading to inflation. President Biden and all Americans must also remember that every time we buy a product ‘Made in China,’ we are putting another dollar into the pockets of Communist China, bankrolling its oppressive government, which is actively committing genocide against the Uyghurs and attacking democracy in Hong Kong and Taiwan. The best way to grow and support American jobs is to cut taxes and regulations, pay down the debt and stop doing business with Communist China.” Read more HERE.

Sens. Rick Scott, Tom Cotton and Colleagues Call on President Biden to Deny Entry to Iranian President, Senior Iranian Officials

Senator Rick Scott joined Senators Tom Cotton, Chuck Grassley, Marsha Blackburn, Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz in a letter to President Biden calling on him to deny entry visas to Iranian President-elect Ebrahim Raisi and other senior Iranian officials to attend the UN General Assembly in September. Sens. Rick Scott, Marco Rubio and Colleagues Introduce Bill to Require Big Tech Disclosure of Government Censorship Requests

Senator Rick Scott joined Senators Marco Rubio, Bill Hagerty, Cynthia Lummis and Ron Johnson in introducing the PRESERVE Online Speech Act to combat the censorship coordination between big tech companies and governments across the globe, including the Biden Administration.

Senator Rick Scott said, “We already know that Big Tech companies pick and choose which viewpoints are allowed on their platforms, and now the Biden administration expressed their willingness to help them censor the American people. That’s unacceptable. The federal government’s role should be to promote free speech of the American people, as protected by our Constitution, not limit it. This bill will hold Big Tech accountable and protect Americans’ rights.” See more From Senator Rubio’s office HERE.

Sen. Rick Scott Joins Sen. Jim Risch, Colleagues in Introducing UNRWA Accountability and Transparency Act

Senator Rick Scott joined Senator Jim Risch and colleagues in introducing the United Nations Relief and Works Agency Accountability and Transparency Act . This legislation outlines a comprehensive approach to cease U.S. contributions to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), a successor entity, or to the U.N. regular budget for the support of UNRWA unless the Secretary of State certifies every 180 days to Congress that UNRWA meets strict accountability and transparency criteria.

Senator Rick Scott said, “Just a few months ago, we saw Hamas terrorists attack our great ally, Israel. American taxpayer dollars should never be used to fund terrorist organizations like Hamas through the United Nations Relief and Works Agency. It’s common sense. This bill works to cut off funding for this organization until significant reforms are made and we can guarantee that no taxpayer dollar will support terrorism or dangerous anti-Semitic activity.” Read more from Senator Risch’s office HERE.

Senator Rick Scott’s Week in Review

This week, Senator Rick Scott worked as a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee to pass the Fiscal Year 2022 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which includes nearly $778 billion in defense spending, a $25 billion increase over President Joe Biden’s inadequate budget request. Senator Scott also fought to secure needed funding for next generation technology and capabilities for Florida’s F-35 squadrons, which are critical to Tyndall Air Force Base and Florida’s panhandle communities.

The 2022 NDAA, as passed by the Senate Armed Services Committee, includes:

$777.9 billion in national defense spending – $25 billion above President Biden’s inadequate request;
A 2.7% pay raise for America’s brave men and women in uniform;
Critical funding to support the continued mission of F-35 squadrons at Tyndall Air Force Base;
Funding and resources to improve military readiness and protect against threats from America’s enemies, including Communist China; and
Key support for America’s allies, including Taiwan and Israel.

Sen. Rick Scott, Leader Kevin McCarthy Lead Colleagues in Letter to Democratic World Leaders Urging Support For the Fight For Freedom in Cuba

Senator Rick Scott, joined by House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy, led members of the United States House of Representatives and United States Senate in a letter to leaders of the member nations of the Organization of American States and the European Union, as well as to other democratic nations and Secretary of State Antony Blinken, urging them to stand up and support the Cuban people in their fight for freedom. The letter, signed by 143 members of Congress including Senator Marco Rubio, Senate Minority Whip John Thune, House Minority Whip Steve Scalise, Representative Mario Diaz-Balart, Representative Carlos Gimenez and Representative Maria Elvira Salazar highlights four actions the democratically-elected leaders of the world’s free countries must take in support of the Cuban people and their democratic aspirations. These actions include denouncing the illegitimate regime and holding it accountable for its horrific human rights abuses through an International Criminal Tribunal; ending all financial support to the regime; coordinating democratic assistance for the brave Cuban freedom advocates; and restoring telecommunications and internet access on the island. Sen. Rick Scott: New Sanctions on Communist Cuban Regime Welcomed, U.S. Must Keep Holding Illegitimate Leaders Accountable

Senator Rick Scott released the below statement following the U.S. Treasury Department’s announcement of new sanctions on the Cuban Minister of Defense and Special Forces Brigade for their human rights abuses against the Cuban people fighting for freedom and democracy against the illegitimate communist Cuban regime.

Senator Rick Scott said, “At the onset of the protests in Cuba, I called for the Biden administration to enact further sanctions on the Cuban regime and do everything possible to lead the international community in full condemnation of the tyrannical oppression being forced on the Cuban people. I’m glad that President Biden has heeded my calls and welcome today’s announcement of sanctions against regime leadership and military units responsible for gross human rights abuses. This cannot just be an empty announcement. These sanctions must be fully implemented and enforced, and additional sanctions considered, to ensure the entire impact of these actions is felt by the Cuban regime. It is critical that the United States not relent in its efforts to hold the illegitimate communist regime accountable. We must continue to provide our full and unwavering support for the brave Cuban people fighting for a new day of freedom and democracy.” Read more HERE.

Sen. Rick Scott: I’ll Always Fight to Protect National Security and Florida’s Future

Senator Rick Scott released the following statement after the Senate Armed Services Committee passed the Fiscal Year 2022 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which includes nearly $778 billion in defense spending, a $25 billion increase over President Joe Biden’s inadequate budget request, and protects national security by prioritizing the next generation technology and capability of Florida’s F-35 squadrons – which are critical to Tyndall Air Force Base and Florida’s panhandle communities.

Senator Rick Scott said, “Florida has 20 military bases and three unified commands, more than almost any other state, and we know how important our military readiness is to America’s national security. As the United States faces increasing threats from Communist China and other adversaries around the world, it is critical that the U.S. military has every resource needed to protect America’s interests and our national security, as well as those of our allies. As a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, I ensured that this year’s National Defense Authorization Act included big wins for Florida’s military interests, and our national military readiness and security. I was also proud to work with Senator Marco Rubio to ensure that Tyndall Air Force Base, which is being reconstructed after Hurricane Michael as a strategic hub of the future for F-35 based air warfare, has all the resources it needs to continue this critical mission. I will never stop fighting to put national security first, protect Florida and ensure that America’s military remains the world’s most lethal fighting force as it works to defend our freedoms.” Read more HERE.

Today, the Congressional Budget Office released a report highlighting the dire nature of the federal debt crisis.

In April, Senator Scott secured an amendment to the rules of the Senate Republican Conference resolving that any increase in the debt ceiling should be accompanied by cuts in federal spending of an equal or greater amount as the debt ceiling increase, or meaningful structural reform in spending.

We cannot allow Congress to continue mortgaging the futures of our children and grandchildren.” Read more HERE.

Sen. Rick Scott Joins Sen. John Cornyn and Bipartisan Colleagues to Introduce Bill Enhancing U.S.-Taiwanese Defense Cooperation

Senator Rick Scott joined Senators John Cornyn, Tammy Duckworth, Roger Wicker, Kevin Cramer, James Lankford, Thom Tillis, Todd Young, Roger Marshall, Ted Cruz, Joni Ernst, Tom Cotton and Cindy Hyde-Smith to introduce the bipartisan Taiwan Partnership Act. The Taiwan Partnership Act would establish a partnership between the U.S. National Guard and Taiwanese defense forces to ensure a well-integrated defense force capable of fast deployment during a crisis.

Senator Rick Scott said, “As Communist China escalates its aggression toward Taiwan, the United States must make clear that we stand with our great ally and the Taiwanese people in defense of its democracy. This legislation carries an important message to General Secretary Xi that we will not tolerate his threats against Taiwan’s autonomy.” Read more HERE.

There is a day of reckoning coming if we don’t get our fiscal house in order, and I will keep fighting every day to rein in the reckless spending that threatens the future of our children and grandchildren.” Read more HERE.

Sen. Rick Scott: One Month After the Tragic Surfside Building Collapse, Florida Remains Surfside Strong

Ahead of the one-month anniversary of the tragic collapse of Champlain Towers South in Surfside, Florida, Senator Rick Scott released the following statement. Earlier this month, the Senate unanimously passed a resolution by Senator Scott and Senator Marco Rubio honoring the lives lost in this horrific tragedy and commending the bravery of the men and women who have risked their lives in search, rescue and recovery efforts.

Senator Rick Scott said, “One month ago tomorrow, the Surfside community, our Jewish community, and the entire State of Florida experienced a tremendous loss when Champlain Towers South tragically and unexpectedly collapsed, taking 97 innocent lives and devastating hundreds of families. Immediately following this horrific tragedy, and in the face of great danger, our brave first responders answered the call. These heroes came from across Florida, the United States, and from Israel and Mexico and worked around the clock on search, rescue and recovery. We also saw volunteers pour into Surfside, bringing a tremendous amount of love and support to lift up the affected families and this heartbroken community. Following unimaginable loss, those responding to the collapse showed the world what it means to be Surfside Strong. We can never thank them enough.

“Today, we continue to pray for and mourn with the affected families. As we mark this somber moment, we also know the work in Surfside is far from over. I will be relentless in the search for answers to make sure this never happens again and remain fully engaged with our local, state and federal agencies to ensure every available resource is provided to these families and the Surfside community.” Read more HERE.

Sen. Rick Scott: We’re Rooting for Team USA & All Floridians Competing in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games

Senator Rick Scott released the following statement as the 2020 Summer Olympic Games begin in Tokyo.

Senator Rick Scott said, “As the 2020 Olympic Games begin, I join everyone in Florida and across the nation in proudly cheering on our fellow Floridians and Americans representing the United States in Tokyo. The Olympic Games are a wonderful opportunity to unite the world’s nations in athletic competition and give the world’s best athletes a chance to represent their countries, and I thank Japan for their hard work to make this event a success amid challenging circumstances. I couldn’t be more proud of the more than 60 Floridians representing our state and nation on Team USA and I wish them the very best of luck. I look forward to seeing their success and celebrating big wins for Team USA.

“As we look to future games, we must keep human rights top of mind. Communist China is committing a genocide against the Uyghurs, and has built up a network of detention camps in Xinjiang capable of imprisoning a million Uyghurs at any given time. With the 2022 games less than a year away, I will not relent in my calls for the International Olympic Committee to move the games out of Beijing and strip Communist China of this platform to whitewash its crimes.” Read more HERE.

Sen. Rick Scott, Leader Kevin McCarthy Lead Colleagues in Letter to Democratic World Leaders Urging Support For the Fight For Freedom in Cuba

Senator Rick Scott and House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy led more than 140 members of the United States Senate and House of Representatives in a letter to leaders of democratic nations and Secretary of State Antony Blinken urging them to stand up and support the Cuban people in their fight for freedom. In the letter, the members highlight several actions the world’s free countries should take to support the Cuban people, including denouncing the illegitimate regime and holding it accountable for its horrific human rights abuses through an International Criminal Tribunal; ending all financial support to the regime; coordinating democratic assistance for the brave Cuban freedom advocates; and restoring telecommunications and internet access on the island.

Read more from The Hill’s article, Republicans call for criminal tribunal for human rights abuses in Cuba, below:

“A group of more than 140 Republican lawmakers are calling on the U.S., governments of Central and South America and the European Union (EU) to hold an international criminal tribunal to investigate alleged human rights by the Cuban government amid historic protests in the island nation.

The Republicans, led by Sen. Rick Scott (Fla.) and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (Calif.) included the demand in a letter sent to the Organization of American States, the EU and U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

The letter specifically called on world leaders to probe reports that ‘Cuban activists have been regularly kidnapped, unjustly jailed, physically mutilated and murdered.’

‘We encourage you to work with us in forming an International Criminal Tribunal for Cuba for crimes against humanity and work to hold the communist regime accountable,’ they added.

The GOP senators and House members also urged the international community to ‘emphatically denounce the illegitimate Cuban regime, hold it accountable for its human rights abuses and immediately end diplomatic relations,’ as well as ‘end all financial support to the regime.’

Additionally, the lawmakers wrote that the ‘world’s democracies must work collaboratively to coordinate democratic assistance for the brave Cuban freedom advocates,’ and ‘do everything in our power to make sure the people of Cuba can communicate with each other and the outside world through unfettered internet access, cellular service, cellular and satellite phones, and other technology that may assist the democratic opposition.’”

Press Release – Rep. Byron Donalds

Rep. Donalds Appointed to New Congressional Committee on Economic Disparity and Fairness in Growth

WASHINGTON – Yesterday, House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) announced his nominating Rep. Byron Donalds (FL-19) as a Member of Congress’ new Select Committee on Economic Disparity and Fairness Growth.

“Ensuring that every American has access to the American Dream and economic prosperity is only possible in a free and capitalistic society that allows for equality of access to success, not by controlling outcomes through raising taxes, wealth distribution, and government dependence. I am grateful to Leader McCarthy for appointing me to this Select Committee and allowing me the opportunity to advocate for the policies that will empower Americans of all backgrounds: lower taxes, fewer regulations, less government interference, and pro-American energy policies.

“As a proud Floridian, I will bring the pro-growth, pro-small business, and pro-Floridian agenda that has attracted many people and businesses to the Sunshine State,” said Congressman Donalds. My Democrat colleagues like to preach about income inequality and the so-called systemic racism rooted in our economic system, yet many of these issues derive from and thrive in America’s most liberal states and cities. I am determined to allow for an economic environment that encourages innovation, growth, and opportunity for all Americans to succeed.”

“My priorities on the select committee are to support all workers, empower families, and strengthen our economy with pro-growth legislation. Our nation is at a crossroads. We can continue down the current path of big government, socialist policies or change course. I will advocate for policies to ensure everyone can sit down at the dinner table feeling financially secure. By prioritizing our workforce and getting government out of the way, we can create family-supporting jobs. I look forward to working with Byron to bring commonsense solutions to issues impacting rural, suburban, and urban communities,” said Ranking Member Bryan Steil.

Fellow Members of the Select Committee on Economic Disparity and Fairness in Growth Include:
Rep. Jim Himes (CT-14), Chair
Rep. Bryan Steil (WI-01), Ranking Member
Rep. Warren Davidson (OH-08)
Rep. Jodey Arrington (TX-19)

Senator Rick Scott’s Week in Review

Senator Rick Scott’s Week in Review

This week, as the courageous Cuban people led historic protests against six decades of repression and tyranny from the communist Castro and Díaz-Canel regime, Senator Rick Scott called on the Biden administration to provide the full support of the federal government to those fighting for freedom and rally the international community behind the Cuban people in this critically important moment.

Senator Scott released a message to the brave people of Cuba fighting for freedom and democracy through peaceful protests across the island. Senator Scott delivered this message standing in front of the illegitimate Cuban Embassy in Washington, D.C., located on 16th Street, which will soon be renamed “Oswaldo Payá Way,” to call out the oppression of the Cuban regime and highlight the cause of dissident Oswaldo Payá.

See more of what Senator Scott has been up to this week below.

Sen. Rick Scott Joins Sen. Rubio and Colleagues to Introduce Resolution in Support of the Cuban People

Senator Rick Scott joined Senator Marco Rubio and colleagues to introduce a resolution in support of the courageous Cuban people as they lead historic protests throughout the island against six decades of repression and tyranny from the communist Castro and Díaz-Canel regime.

Senator Rick Scott said, “This week, the heroic freedom fighters across Cuba have struck fear throughout the brutal Castro dictatorship and shown incredible determination in the fight to regain their freedom and put an end to the oppressive communist Cuban regime. For decades, the Castro regime has tried to spread communism throughout Latin America and now, with the world watching, the Cuban people are saying no more. Now more than ever, the United States must stand strong in its support of liberty and democracy for the Cuban people and make clear that we will never stop fighting for a new day of freedom in Cuba.” See more from Senator Rubio’s office HERE.

Sen. Rick Scott: The U.S. Must Stand Strongly With the Cuban People Fighting for Freedom

Across Cuba, the people continue to peacefully protest against communist rule, and demand the freedom, liberty and basic human rights which the brutally oppressive communist Cuban regime has stolen from them for decades. As the Cuban people march toward a new day of freedom, Senator Rick Scott released the following statement supporting their fight for democracy, and demanding that the Biden administration aggressively hold the regime accountable and support the cause of freedom in Havana and across Cuba.

Senator Rick Scott said, “Today in Havana, the Communist Cuban regime is shaking with fear as the people rise up to denounce the oppressive communist rule that has brought ruin to their nation for more than 60 years. I stand proudly with the heroic freedom fighters across Cuba that have taken to the streets determined to regain their freedom and put an end to the Castro dictatorship. The message from the Cuban people to Díaz-Canel and Raul Castro has never been more clear: your time is up.

“Now, the Biden administration must lead the freedom-loving nations of the world in loud and unequivocal denouncement of the brutal communist Castro regime, and in support of the liberty, democracy and human rights the Cuban people call for and rightfully deserve. We must be clear, for decades Cuba has been the root of instability in Latin America and represented a terrible threat to the national security of the United States. Today, the American people must join freedom-loving Cubans in saying the oppression ends now. We cannot return to Obama-Biden appeasement policies. We cannot lift sanctions or restore diplomatic relations with the Cuban dictatorship. I urge the Biden administration to impose further sanctions on the tyrannical Cuban regime. We cannot let up. There must be consequences for this heinous oppression and attacks on peaceful protesters.

“To the people of Cuba: You are not alone, I stand with you in this fight. Florida stands with you in this fight. The United States of America stands with you in this fight. The freedom of Cuba is closer than ever and we are not going to stop until we see a new day of freedom, democracy and ‘Patria y Vida’ in Cuba.” Read more HERE.

Sen. Rick Scott and The Heritage Foundation Release Episode 2 in ‘Road Trip on a Budget’ Video Series Washington Can’t Keep Maxing out America’s Credit Card

Senator Rick Scott released the second episode of his video short series in partnership with the Heritage Foundation: Road Trip on a Budget. Episode 2 highlights how Washington politicians have been driving up the national debt and maxing out America’s credit card with no way to pay it off. Senator Scott is demanding action, including the immediate passage of his Federal Debt Emergency Control Act, to help start paying down the debt and hold Congress accountable for its awful spending habits. See the previous Road Trip on a Budget episode HERE.

Senator Rick Scott said, “The inflation we are seeing across the nation right now is the direct result of Washington’s wasteful spending. Inflation is a tax on America’s working families. Rising prices are devastating to low and fixed-income Americans. I grew up poor and watched my parents struggle to put food on the table. Instead of just hiking the debt ceiling every time Washington gets close to the limit, it’s time to start acting responsibly. With the debt ceiling expiring on July 31, we must tackle these issues head-on and chart a new and fiscally responsible path forward that protects families and our nation’s financial security.” Watch the second episode HERE or below.

We continue to pray for the Surfside community, our Jewish community, the families and loved ones of the lost and all of those working tirelessly to serve the Surfside community. The pain these families and all affected by this tragedy are experiencing is heartbreaking and unimaginable. In the face of tremendous loss, our first responders ran into the danger. They are heroes that came from across Florida, the United States, and from Israel and Mexico. We can never thank these brave men and women enough for their bravery and determination in the face of this terrible tragedy. In the weeks and months ahead, I will be relentless in the search for answers to make sure this never happens again.” Read more HERE.

En las próximas semanas y meses, seré implacable en la búsqueda de respuestas para asegurarme de que esto nunca vuelva a suceder”. Lea más AQUÍ.

Sen. Rick Scott: Biden Must Answer for his Growing Inflation Crisis

Following the latest Consumer Price Index (CPI) release from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), Senator Rick Scott released the below statement highlighting the devastating impact of inflation on Florida families and the need to end reckless spending and pay down the debt. June’s CPI data shows that there has been a notable increase in inflation every month of Biden’s presidency. Year over year, consumer prices increased 5.4% in June – a significant increase from the 5% increase reported for the 12-month period ending in May 2021 and the largest 12-month increase since 2008. Annualized, the monthly CPI growth rate reached 11.7% in June.

Senator Rick Scott said, “As inflation continues to grow under President Biden’s failed economic policies of reckless spending and ballooning national debt, families in Florida and across America are paying the price. Today’s CPI data shows that once again, for the sixth consecutive month, prices of goods are on the rise for Florida families. That hurts our low and fixed-income families, like mine growing up, the most. Gas prices are up nearly a dollar – up more than 45% since this time last year. Our country can’t continue down this path. Reckless government spending has consequences and it’s time for President Biden to answer for the growing inflation crisis he has created.

“Last month, I introduced the Federal Debt Emergency Control Act to bring down the debt and stop the reckless spending we have seen from Democrats. We must immediately pass this bill and start protecting our families and small businesses from further harm caused by failed liberal leadership in Washington.” Read more HERE. Sen. Rick Scott: As Inflation Rages, Joe Biden’s Reckless Spending Spree Continues

Following the latest Producer Price Index (PPI) release from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), Senator Rick Scott released the below statement calling out the disastrous impacts of President Joe Biden’s reckless spending which has created an inflation crisis in America. Similar to June’s Consumer Price Index (CPI) data, June’s PPI data shows that there has been a notable increase in inflation every month of Biden’s presidency.

Senator Rick Scott said, “As Joe Biden’s inflation crisis rages, he just can’t stop fueling it with more reckless government spending. On the same day that the June CPI report showed that inflation has grown every month under Biden’s presidency, Democrats are out with a new plan for a $4.1 TRILLION dollar spending spree.

“Americans are experiencing 1970’s-style inflation again and it’s because of Joe Biden’s failed economic policies. It’s disgusting that in the face of Biden’s inflation crisis that has devastating impacts on America’s low and fixed-income families, like mine growing up, Joe Biden and the Democrats can’t face reality and be fiscally responsible to protect American families.”

Year over year, producer prices increased 7.3% in June – a significant rise from the 6.6% increase reported for the 12-month period ending in May 2021 and the largest 12-month increase since 12-month data were first calculated in 2010. Annualized, the monthly PPI growth rate reached 13.2% in June. In June, the PPI saw a historic surge in the prices of processed goods, which jumped 22.6%, the highest jump since 1975. Read more HERE. Sens. Rick Scott, Ron Johnson and Colleagues on Democrats’ Partisan Spending Bill: America Needs to Invest in Infrastructure Without Out of Control Spending

Senators Rick Scott, Ron Johnson, Marsha Blackburn, Mike Lee, Ted Cruz, Rand Paul, Mike Braun, Cynthia Lummis and Bill Hagerty released a joint statement on the Democrats’ multi-trillion dollar partisan spending package:

“Our nation is nearing $30 trillion in debt. There is a day of reckoning if we don’t get our fiscal house in order. We appreciate our colleagues’ efforts to get a bipartisan deal done. But supporting this infrastructure deal enables the Democrats to pass their $3.5 trillion spending package. Joe Biden said it himself: These two issues are welded together.

“Everyone agrees America needs to invest in infrastructure. But with our national debt growing out of control and Democrats dedicated to passing a 100% partisan blowout spending package totaling $3.5 trillion, we cannot support any additional deficit spending on Joe Biden’s, Nancy Pelosi’s, Chuck Schumer’s and Bernie Sanders’ liberal wish list.

“We can pay for needed infrastructure without incurring additional debt by instead repurposing previously appropriated but unspent funds. We urge our colleagues to support an alternative approach and recognize that supporting an infrastructure bill that authorizes new spending also enables the Democrats’ $3.5 trillion tax-and-spend budget. We must stop mortgaging our children’s and grandchildren’s futures.” Read more HERE.

Sen. Rick Scott to Chair Powell: It’s Time to Acknowledge and Address America’s Growing Inflation Crisis

Senator Rick Scott sent a letter to Federal Reserve Chair Jay Powell expressing his concerns about the Federal Reserve’s lack of response to address its growing balance sheet, which has exceeded $8 trillion for the first time, and the growing threat of rising inflation on American families. Senator Scott has been clear on the need for immediate action and spending reform, and has been calling for President Biden and the Federal Reserve to lay out a plan to address the threat our growing national debt poses to the U.S. economy. Sen. Rick Scott Applauds Senate Passage of Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act

Senator Rick Scott released the following statement after the Senate unanimously passed the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act, sponsored by Senator Marco Rubio. Senator Scott joined his colleagues in support of this bipartisan legislation, which will ensure that goods made with Uyghur forced labor in the Xinjiang region do not enter the United States.

Senator Rick Scott said, “Communist China is committing a genocide against the Uyghurs in Xinjiang and the United States must take a stand against these atrocities. No company should be doing businesses with Communist China, and they have the responsibility to make sure their products and supply chains are free from Uyghur forced labor. The Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act ensures American families and businesses are not unknowingly complicit in Beijing’s genocide. I urge the House to quickly passes this important legislation and President Biden to immediately sign it into law.” Read more HERE.

Sen. Rick Scott in Fox News: Real police reform – ignore Dems’ radical policies and start with this commonsense step

Senator Rick Scott wrote an op-ed for Fox News on his support for police reform that improves community safety, protects law enforcement officers and better serves families. Senator Scott outlines how effective police reform should start with professional accreditation to help hold officers accountable without undercutting their ability to keep communities safe.

In the op-ed, Senator Rick Scott wrote, “Right now, there’s a lot of talk in Washington about police reform. I am 100% behind police reform that improves community safety, protects our brave law enforcement officers and better serves our families.

But, needed changes in law enforcement won’t come from the Democrats’ radical proposals like defunding the police. Undercutting our men and women in uniform has devastating and dangerous consequences. We’ve seen cities and police agencies across our nation retreat from effective policing and, as a result, violent crime is spiking.

We can’t weaken law enforcement’s ability to effectively prevent and fight crime.

The villainizing of our men and women in uniform we’ve seen from Democrats in Washington and across America has consequences. When I was governor of Florida, we lost 51 law enforcement officers in the line of duty. Every one of them is a hero. The Democrats’ attack on our police is a disgusting insult to these heroes and all who honorably wear the uniform, and I won’t stand for it.

I sincerely appreciate the good work my colleague and friend, Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., has done to advance the cause of pragmatic police reform in this country. I’ll continue to work with him and anyone else in Washington who wants to have a real conversation about finding solutions that create safer communities in Florida and across our nation.

If we want real, sustained and effective police reform that changes agency culture, we need to realize that it won’t come from more lawsuits or transferring liability from officers to their agencies. Creating meaningful change requires accountability. There is, and has been, a robust police reform movement going on in America for decades that has been extraordinarily effective – it’s called professional accreditation. This is just part of the answer, but it’s the right place to start…”

In the op-ed, Senator Rick Scott and FGA President Tarren Bragdon wrote, “Currently the debt clock ticks well past $28 trillion, barreling toward $30 trillion. That’s more than $90,000 for every man, woman and child in America.

Out-of-control government spending, debt and labor shortages are contributing to rising inflation — a 13-year high of 5 percent — and suddenly government overspending and bad policy impact the price of everything, from gas to bread to plywood.

As prices continue to rise, the Biden administration — especially with its recent $6 trillion budget proposal on top of trillions of dollars of previous spending — has little intention of reducing the national debt or spending with more prudence.

One is to pursue practical measures that make it easy and relatively painless to cut spending, if we start now. The Federal Debt Emergency Control Act includes several provisions to do just that.

This commonsense legislation does not prescribe what spending or programs should be cut, but instead provides members of Congress and Senators with incentives that deters bloated spending bills.

The longer we ignore the debt problem, the worse it will become — not just for us, but for future generations.

A debt crisis is here. And it will be American families that feel the effects of their government’s lack of fiscal responsibility through inflation, higher costs and rising taxes.

With the debt limit deadline approaching, there’s no better time for Congress to do right by the American taxpayer and finally address the federal debt and reckless government spending. Let’s seize that opportunity.”

Senator Rick Scott’s Week in Review

This week, ahead of Hurricane Elsa’s landfall in Florida, Senator Rick Scott urged Floridians to stay alert and prepare for any potential impacts. Throughout the week, Senator Scott and his team remained in constant contact with National Hurricane Center Director Ken Graham, federal, state and local officials and Florida’s utility providers.

Hurricane Elsa impacted much of Florida and served as an important reminder that severe weather can approach quickly, and families should always be prepared. For more on hurricane preparedness information and resources, visit ready.gov or www.rickscott.senate.gov/hurricanes.

Senator Scott and his office also continue to work collaboratively with state and local officials to assist families impacted by the tragic collapse of Champlain Towers South in Surfside. Sen. Rick Scott: We Must Protect American Power Infrastructure from Foreign Interference

Senators Rick Scott, Marco Rubio, Tom Cotton and Roger Marshall introduced the Protect American Power Infrastructure Act to prohibit bulk-power equipment that is owned by, operated or associated with a foreign adversary from providing power to our nation’s defense critical electric infrastructure.

Last year, President Trump issued an executive order to reduce the risks that entities associated with Communist China pose to the nation’s bulk-power system. The Protect American Power Infrastructure Act codifies important components of President Trump’s executive order after President Biden revoked it earlier this year.

Senator Rick Scott said, “The Biden administration has shown it is willing to use taxpayer dollars to purchase critical energy equipment from foreign adversaries, like Communist China. That’s insane. We can’t do businesses with nations that are actively trying to disrupt our power grids, upend our everyday life and hurt Americans. We must keep our energy infrastructure safe and secure. My Protect American Power Infrastructure Act will ensure that our most critical and sensitive infrastructure is protected from our adversaries, and I hope the Senate passes this bill quickly.” Read more HERE.

Sen. Rick Scott: Floridians Must Prepare for Impacts of Tropical Storm Elsa

Senator Rick Scott released the following statement urging Floridians to stay alert and prepare for impacts ahead of Tropical Storm Elsa.

Senator Rick Scott said, “Tropical Storm Elsa is headed toward Florida, bringing life-threatening storm surge along our Gulf Coast, strong winds and very heavy rainfall. Communities in the Tampa Bay, Central Florida and Big Bend regions will face the most serious and dangerous weather, including the threat of tornadoes. We know severe weather can change very quickly and should not be underestimated. I’m receiving regular briefings from Ken Graham, the Director of the National Hurricane Center, and my team has been in touch with law enforcement, utility providers and county emergency management officials across the state. As our state continues to respond to the horrific tragedy in Surfside, FEMA has assured me they are doing everything possible to ensure there is no interruption in the response and availability of resources for both the continued efforts in Surfside and for storm preparedness and response. With Elsa approaching, I’m urging every Floridian to be prepared, stay vigilant and listen to the directions of local officials. Don’t put yourself or your family at risk.” Read more HERE.

Sen. Rick Scott in the Wall Street Journal: If the International Olympic Committee Stands for Human Rights, It Should Move the 2022 Games from Communist China

Senator Rick Scott wrote a letter to the editor of the Wall Street Journal in response to a recent op-ed, If Uyghur Lives Matter, the Olympics Should Move, on why the International Olympic Committee (IOC) should move the 2022 Winter Olympics from Communist China to a nation that respects human rights.

In the letter to the editor, Senator Rick Scott wrote, “In October 2019, I wrote to IOC President Thomas Bach about the atrocities occurring at the hands of China’s communist government. In my letter, I made a direct request: Move the 2022 Olympic Games to a nation that values human rights. Since then, I have repeatedly called on the IOC, Olympic sponsors, NBCUniversal, President Biden and his fellow world leaders, and many others to join our calls to relocate the games. Most have remained silent, but I won’t.

Communist China cannot be given the opportunity to whitewash its crimes on a world stage. If the IOC stands for human rights, it will move these games. The world is watching.”
