Merry Christmas from Kathleen Passidomo

This year delivered many challenges to our state and our nation, but hope is on the horizon.  The FDA last Friday granted approval for a COVID-19 vaccine to be administered in the United States.  On Monday, December 14, a nurse in Tampa received the first COVID-19 vaccine in Florida after Governor Ron DeSantis accepted the shipment.  100,000 doses of the vaccine are expected to arrive in Florida this week, and will be administered to the workers on the front line, as well as Florida’s most vulnerable citizens.

While this is a great stride forward in our fight against COVID-19, the vast majority of us remain at risk until the vaccine is widely available.  Continue to follow CDC guidelines, practice social distancing, wear a mask and wash your hands.  It is our personal responsibility to keep ourselves and others safe by taking simple steps to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

I hope you all have a very merry Christmas and a blessed holiday season.  May 2021 bring you good health and great joy.

COVID-19 Update: Florida Hospitalizations & Case Data

Governor DeSantis Issues Updates on COVID-19 Vaccine Plan

On December 10, Governor Ron DeSantis announced his plan to distribute Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine in Florida.

“Our top priority is residents of long-term care facilities.  They are at the greatest risk and this vaccine could have a positive impact, not just protecting them from COVID, but allowing them to return to a more normal life,” said Governor DeSantis.

Elderly residents and individuals considered high-risk who suffer from multiple medical or health conditions will be next in line for the vaccine.

Florida anticipates additional vaccine options as other companies await approval from the FDA.  Click here to learn more about the Governor’s vaccine distribution plan.

Traveling? Remain Healthy This Holiday Season

Travel increases your chance of getting and spreading COVID-19.  If you must travel this holiday season, the CDC recommends the following steps to best protect yourself and others:

·         Check travel restrictions before you go.

·         Check CDC’s Domestic Travel Guidance and consider testing before and after you travel.

·         Get your flu shot before you travel.

·         Always wear a mask in public settings and on public transportation.

·         Stay at least six feet apart from anyone who is not in your household.

·         Wash your hands often or use hand sanitizer.

·         Avoid touching your mask, eyes, nose and mouth.

·         Bring extra supplies, such as masks and hand sanitizer.

·         If driving, pack your food and limit stops.

·         Know when to delay your travel.

Tips to Host a Healthy Holiday Gathering

If you choose to host loved ones in your home, the CDC recommends the following steps to make holiday celebrations safer.

·         Set expectations with guests ahead of celebrating together.

·         Limit the number of guests.

·         Have a small, outdoor celebration with family and friends who live in your community, weather-permitting.

·         Have extra unused masks available for your guests and encourage everyone to wear them.

·         Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces and items between use.

·         If celebrating indoors, bring in fresh air by opening windows and doors, if possible.

·         Have a separate space for guests to wash their hands or provide hand sanitizer.

·         Cancel your gathering if you or someone who lives with you is sick or has been near someone who thinks they have COVID-19.

·         It’s okay if you decide to postpone or cancel your gathering. Do what’s best for you.

December Festivities in Southwest Florida

Protect Yourself from “Porch Pirates” This Holiday Season

With the increased number of packages being dropped off at doorsteps and left on porches, the Hendry County Sheriff’s Office offered up some safety tips to prevent you from being a target of a home-delivery theft this year.  Here are some tips to protect yourself from holiday “Porch Pirates:”

·         Be sure to make note of your packages’ tracking numbers and monitor delivery while in transit.  Plan to be home during that time, if possible.

·         Require that someone sign for packages.

·         Try to make arrangements with your shippers to leave packages out of sight.

·         Establish a relationship with your U.S. Postal Service worker and service-delivery employees. This can be helpful when problems need to be solved.

·         Look into locking mailboxes with baffle doors that accept small packages.

·         Have packages delivered to your workplace or other safer locations.

·         Make arrangements for your neighbor to keep an eye out for your packages.

·         Install security cameras.

·         Rent a box or locker at your local post office or UPS store.

·         Insure valuable items.

·         If your uninsured packages are stolen, ask for a replacement by the shipper. In some cases, they may offer this for free.

·         Report stolen packages to law enforcement so they are better able to work on catching thieves, who are often targeting multiple homes.

·         Keep an eye out for suspicious vehicles that might appear to be following delivery trucks or lingering too long in front of homes.

President’s Message – Annual Meeting of Republican Men’s Club Dear members

Jim Carter
President, Men’s Republican Club

Our club was officially chartered in April of 2003. Two years prior I stated this club with Lou Vlasho, a Naples Restauranteur, who had founded a similar club in Ohio, prior to moving to Naples.

Early in our discussion we we were joined by several others, including Wayne Smith who played a major role in developing our club. I had the honor of serving as our first President.

Through the years we’ve had our ups and downs. A core of dedicated members kept us active in Republican politics. In 2012 Charlie Sues asked me to rejoin the Board to fulfill an unexpired term of a member who left the area. We had about 35 members. I was asked to take over programming. Soon after our president resigned over a job conflict. I was elected President. The rest is history.

Over the last Eight years we’ve rebuilt the Board, expanded our scholarship program, developed the Annual Salute to Veterans into a major Naples event and brought national and international speakers to our membership. This Board is getting us through COVID-19 and will continue to provide the leadership that takes us forward into 2021.

Today we have over 120 members. Our membership includes many of our elected officials both local, state and newly elected congressman Byron Donald’s. We have provided a great deal of leadership to the CCREC and always have been a major forum for Republican candidates.

This meeting has particular significance as three (3) new members will be elected to your Board of Directors. We have five (5) candidates for Three (3) positions. All are very qualified to join the other six (6) in moving us forward.

You need to read the bios and be present to vote. These candidates are our future.

I know all of us stepping down have found this a very rewarding experience. Chad, John and I will continue to be involved and do everything we can to support our club. It will be my pleasure to introduce your new President and officers at the January meeting.

Being a Republican

Jim Carter
President, Men’s Republican Club

Why we are Republicans First, we understand what it means to be an American. It’s our core values given to us by our Founding Fathers. No matter what happens in any election cycle these will always be our guiding principles :

“ We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect Union, establish justice to insure domestic tranquility, to provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our prosperity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for The United States of America “

Freedom fighters have never been a majority. Our beliefs are less government, lower taxes and more freedom. This is why we have been such a successful Nation. Those who stand tall in the darkest of times provide all of us the strength and motivation to never give up on the American dream.

Churchill said “never, never, never give up” FDR said “ the only thing we have to fear is fear itself” These words will always be true.

Donald Trump has inspired freedom loving Americans. He taught us to believe in America and ourselves again. Not since President Regan have we seen so much passion for America.

What all the above teaches us is America, the melting pot of the world, is the last great bastion of freedom.

Where else could you arrive penniless and achieve success beyond your wildest dreams?

Today, as always, we have external enemy’s. However, the greatest threats are with in our boarders. These destructive forces are imbedded in our government, corporations, educational systems and media conglomerates.

If we are to stay free, we will once again have to stand tall. Our job as Republicans never ends. Every election cycle provides new challenges. We can as Churchill said “never, never, never” give up.

Trump Stands for the People – One More Time

Jim Carter
President, Men’s Republican Club

One more time: President Trump Stands up for We The People.

The passing of Ruth Bader Ginsberg adds one more challenge to saving our Republic on November 3rd. She was a credible and respected jurist.

The late Anthony Scalia was a close friend and admired her for her knowledge while being on the opposite side of judicial cases brought to the Supreme Court.

President Trump has a list of nominees based on talent, proven success and understanding that the job of a Justice is to interpret the law not to try and rewrite it.

The Democrats criteria is gender and color driven vs qualifications. Well, what else is new? For them it’s always about power and control of our lives.

We know the media and all the chest thumpers will scream the appointment shouldn’t be made until after the November elections. If the Radical left didn’t control the Democratic Party and the voice wasn’t Alexandria Ocasio Cortez it might be a different story. Plus we remember what happened in the Justice Kavanaugh Senate hearings .

You can’t trust Democrats. The agenda is to finish what Obama started. FUNDAMENTALLY CHANGE AMERICA FROM A CONSTITUTIONAL REPUBLIC TO A SOCIALIST NATION WITH A FOCUS ON ONE WORLDISM .

We are a sovereign nation and the radical left supported by billionaires like George Soros are doing every thing the can to destroy us.

President Trump needs to send his Supreme Court nominee to the Senate by the end of September. Let the process begin.

What will happen? The Blue states and WDC will see violence. The Drivers: Antifa. This isn’t a myth, it isn’t imaginary, it isn’t peaceful, it’s a TERRORIST organization.

There is another Democrat ally. Black lives matter global network foundation: shortened version BLM. This isn’t a grass roots organization. Funding comes through not for profit, tax exempt and political action groups who support far left Democrats. They have chapters in Boston, Chicago, WDC, Denver, Detroit, Los Angles, Lansing, Long Beach, Memphis, Nashville, NYC, Philadelphia, South Bend and Canada: Toronto and Vancouver.

Look at the geography and the on going riots. These same areas will be focal points as the Senate deals with vetting and appointing a Supreme Court Justice.

Hang on. It will be a rough ride.
Jim Carter

Election News – Primary to General

Jim Carter
President, Men’s Republican Club

Congratulations to those who either won re election or are first time office holders as a result of our Primary August 18.

Crystal Kinzel Clerk of Courts and Abe Skinner Property Appraiser. Incumbents with no opposition, Jennifer Edwards Supervisor of Elections, Sheriff Kevin Rambosk and our Tax collector elect, Rob Stoneburner.

Some of you face Democrats and/or independents in the November election including Commissioners Bill McDaniel, District 5 and Commission candidate Rick LoCastro District 1 have another lap to go. State House seat 80 winner Lauren Melo, State House seat 106 Bob Rommel, and State House seat 105 David Borrero face Democrats in the general election. We need to support them. to insure Republicans control the Florida legislature. Of the State House races, newcomer David Borrero faces the toughest competition in a heavier Democratic district.

The hotly contested race for Congressional seat 19 was won by Byron Donalds who gave up his Florida house seat 80 to run for Congress. We all know Byron will do a great job. A real plus to have our Congressman residing in Collier. Never forget, Collier County is a powerful Republican voting group.

Collier County School Board incumbents faced no opposition. Our member, Eric Carter, Vice Chair is good for another 4 years. Carter is a big supporter of our Salute to Veterans,we wish him well.

While a lot of attention is paid to the above races , let’s not forget those who serve on other various important district boards or councils. I don’t know all of these positions but congratulations to all who won.

Two very supportive MRC club members won and are or will be serving on Mosquito Control Districts. Sandra Buxton and Bob Burland of the Hilton team..

Within the CCREC we had competiton for State Committee races. A great debt of thanks to the incumbents who lost. Dough Rankin has served us well for a number of years . A dedicated Republican who will continue to work hard to get Republicans elected. The same would describe Jan Face Glassman. She is tireless in her efforts and has always given her best to serve our party. Her contacts have brought a number of prominent Republicans to speak at our Lincoln/Regan Day dinners. We owe them both a great deal of gratitude for there service.

Our new representatives bring a great deal of talent to the job. Alfie Oakes of Oakes farms, hit the spotlight when he spoke out publicly about Black Lives Matter and had his multi million dollar contract with Lee County school district cancelled. He is suing them.

Oakes is a very successful business business man and brings new energy to our party. Joann DeBartolo is the President of the Patriots for Trump Club. She has brought and continues to bring major Trump supporters to speak at their meetings. She is well connected to the Trump campaign.

Some of our precinct’s had competiton. Whether you won or lost we need to commit to Re electing Republicans at every level of Government.

It takes hard work and the stakes couldn’t be higher. Either we save this Republic or we cascade into the hell of Socialism. So no matter what happened in the primary let’s get it together.

The true mark of winner is to be a bigger person than just winning your election. If you defeated an incumbent, reach out and make it a smooth transition.

Campaigns gets ugly. It’s a fact of life. I don’t condone it but reality is pick up the pieces and move on. Just think if winners and losers took the best of each, everybody wins.

On to VICTORY in November.

Is Free Speech Dead In America?

Is Free Speech Dead In America?

Jim Carter
President, Men’s Republican Club

Maybe not but it’s certainly on  life supports! Today, at best , it’s controlled speech driven by fear and repercussions.

Looking back, universities and colleges have produced a number of limited thinkers. The right to question or express different points of view have been smothered by the domination of far left professors and gutless administrators who cow tow to these very vocal groups.

Of course tenure perpetuates this dysfunctional environment. A balance of guest speakers covering the entire political spectrum or astute legal or business leaders is discouraged. If one is announced, student protests led by a minority raise havoc and destruction!

Dressed in black and wearing hoods they become a disruptive element inflicting physical destruction and harm to those who oppose. University police are ordered to stand down. Sound familiar?

Speaking your mind as a conservative will most likely cost you your job. Those on the left, no matter how prejudice the statement, are explained away. Harvard recently terminated two professors for commenting on people of color while another  of color made headlines that white people are not important. Her comment was explained away as not the “official “ position of the university. She was “ taken” out of context. Really! Still at Harvard. Dah!!

The National media is controlled by six conglomerates. All are left of center. If you work for one of these groups and write anything not following the script you are forced to resign. Pick any day and  channel surf the news. It’s all out of the same playbook. Managed News! Only a couple of exceptions: Newsmax and some times Fox.

Social Media: The greatest violator of  free speech. They enjoy protection under the law because they are Public Billboards. Not to be censored unless it’s pornographic or advocating the physical over throw of the Government .

Instead of a free flow of information they are controlling it. It’s called censorship.

It’s done through the manipulation of apps. They can influence the outcome of any election. Why isn’t there public out rage? It’s fear. Speak up and you are verbally attacked. Sometimes it becomes physical.

Many people will not participate in telephone surveys, written surveys or talk to reporters. If you own a fire arm , you won’t discuss it. Most of us have become guarded when talking in groups.

While we have individual levels of fear, the fact remains, it influences us and our willingness to  speak out on defending and protecting our Constitutional Republic.

Cities like Portland, Oregon and Seattle, Washington are run by flower children Mayors and elected by regressive’s believe in selective protection of there  populations. How dare anyone speak out about their inept polices which encourages certain elements to takeover portions of there cities. They don’t like Federal agencies such as ICE and Homeland security operating in these cities.

Never mind those employees are residents like anybody else.

Wheeler, mayor, of Portland is a classic dolt who wants you to never to speak out on his bazar policies of selective protection. Free speech is not welcome in his city.

These are just a few examples. The question is: Are you willing to exercise your right to Free Speech? The option is: keep you mouth shut. Live and let live. Don’t rock the boat. This to will pass.

Never discuss politics.  And one day you will hear sirens, boots in the street, pounding on your door and feel the cold sweat on your forehead——-Will we become Germany, Italy of the 30’s , Stalin’s Russia \? Today’s China? You decide!

FLORIDA LEGISLATIVE SUMMARY

Dave Trecker
Committee Chair

The 2020 legislative session is now history, and Florida has a record-setting $92.2 billion budget in place for fiscal 2020-21.

The coronavirus didn’t influence much of the lawmaking, but it did influence the budget, as Governor DeSantis struggled to provide needed funding while taking into account revenue shortfalls caused by the pandemic.

The 2020 legislature passed over 200 bills and, at this writing, the governor has signed 177 of them. As always, much of the legislation was directed to local matters and non-controversial issues. But many of the bills had far-reaching implications. Here is one person’s list (with my own prejudices) of some of the most consequential, both good and bad.

HB 1005 gives local officials additional means of processing election recounts through use of independent auditing systems, a needed reform.

HB 641 paves the way for raising teachers’ pay, a DeSantis priority.

HB 7067 increases eligibility for private-school scholarships, a huge win for school choice. This opens the door to what the Wall Street Journal calls “the biggest private-school voucher expansion in U.S. history.”

SB 172 transfers regulation of all over-the-counter drugs and cosmetics to the state, a stunning blow to home rule prompted by concerns over restricting sunscreen sales.

HB 1339 requires local government to provide incentives to offset certain costs for building affordable housing – legislation some say is a gift to developers and another blow to home rule.

SB 646 allows college athletes to make money from endorsement deals, making Florida the third state to allow collegians to do so.

SB 664 requires employers to use E-Verify or other federal citizenship verification, with exemptions for construction and farm workers. This watered-down bill does little to bar undocumented migrants.

HB 969 authorizes expanded broadband access in rural areas, a move applauded for increasing internet services and spurring economic growth.

SB 404 requires a physician to have parental consent before performing an abortion on a minor (under 18 years of age). This is an explosive social issue, likely headed to the courts.

SB 712 is an omnibus water-quality bill, the most far-reaching in decades. Among other things, it triggers rulemaking for septic tanks, mandates farmers to keep track of fertilizer use and calls for state inspection of farms every two years.

High-profile legislation that didn’t make the cut includes gun control, vacation rentals, CBD regulation, mental health and fracking.

Passing bills is one part of the process. The other part is funding. You need money to make things happen. And $92.2 billion is a lot of taxpayer money. There is every reason to believe it will be spent wisely.

Governor DeSantis kept his promise to boost education and the environment by keeping intact $500 million for teacher raises and $625 for water projects. Another $100 million was allocated for purchasing conservation land. State employees got a long-awaited 3% wage increase. A particularly good move was increasing the reserve to $6.3 billion, a buffer against troubles ahead.

Some of those troubles are already here. To offset plunging revenues caused by the pandemic, the governor trimmed $1 billion from the original $93.2 billion budget. The cuts mostly affected local projects – roads, water treatment, the arts. Affordable housing took a hit, as did capital outlays for state schools. The Naples area saw over $2 million in state funding disappear.

And it may not be over. A continuing drop in revenues could prompt further cuts in state and local programs.

It’s been a rough year for Governor DeSantis and our legislators, but they’ve done a terrific job in difficult times. We owe them our thanks.

Presidents Message – Ignoring History: A Recipe for Disaster.

Jim Carter
President, Men’s Republican Club

Incidents in history have major repercussions that dramatically change our lives.

The assassination of the Arch Duke Ferdinand triggered World War I. The bombing of Pearl Harbor by the Japanese brought us into World War II. Watergate, changed forever how we view Presidents. None of these situations exist in isolation.

There is always a history of what took place prior to the event. What is happening in America today has been a long time coming. Let’s take a look at some of these issues.

Saul Alinsky, wrote 12 rules for Radicals. He outlines eight levels of control to establish the Socialist state.

  1. Healthcare: Control healthcare and you control the people
  2. Poverty level: increase the poverty level as high as possible. Poor people won’t fight back if you give them what they want to exist.
  3. Debt: increase to a high unsustainable level. Increase taxes to create more poor people
  4. Gun Control : Remove people’s ability to defend themselves
  5. Welfare: take control of every aspect of people’s lives.
  6. Education: take control of what people read and listen to
  7. Religion: remove the belief in God from government and schools
  8. Class Warfare: divide the people into the wealthy and the poor. Creates more discontent

Every one of these rules is being used or advocated by the Radical left who controls the Democrat party. This plan was all going well under Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.

Hillary was expected to follow Barack into the Whitehouse and finish the job of fundamentally changing America. She was a student of Alinsky.

Then came Donald Trump. He is every thing they aren’t. He is just the opposite.

He is doing the reverse of Saul Alinsky. The haltered is unbelievable. In spite of all the efforts of the radical left, America was turning the corner. Then it happened: the Wuhan flue. An opportunity for the left to hit the Alinsky button.

While it was generally failing , along comes the Minneapolis incident. A bad cop takes the life of George Floyd. Boom! An opportunity for Obama’s Organizing for Action to Spring into action. Right out of the Alinsky playbook.

This organization was first brought to light by Paul Sperry, New York Post, in the fall of 2017.

Obama and his former top administration people are involved in the strategical and tactical implementation of this Marist resistance group. They are leveraged by Politically Active courts. 30,0000+ strong, located in 250 cities across the US. Allies include ACLU lawyers and the leftist media.

One incident, riots across America and even England. Pallet’s of bricks dropped at key locations in New York City. A spontaneous reaction to an incident? No ,this was just an opportunity as a result of a tragic situation , compounded by the Wuhan virus that shut down America and. Most of the World.

Could all of this been prevented? Yes. The problem is we haven’t learned any thing from Occupy Wall Street, Homeless Problems in major cities like Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle. Cities dominated by failed Mayors and City Councils. This is the breeding ground for Organizing for Action.

Senator Tim Scott and Dr. Ben Carson are making headway in the above areas. Just one example, if we are to learn from history, these programs begin to make a difference.

The only way we can win in November is to champion our successes and not let these radical groups gain the upper hand. It would be tragic that 50 years from now a former President and failed candidate, was the reason for the demise of the United States of America vs how We the People, through President Trump, turned back Socialism and continued to be the Worlds best hope for freedom.
