Weekly Wrap-Up with Congressman Byron DonaldsSeptember 20, 2021 Last week, the House of Representatives stood in recess, which afforded me much-needed time to travel throughout Southwest Florida, meet with local leaders, and tour small business owners of Florida’s 19th Congressional District. The mainstream media continues to ignore the ongoing humanitarian crisis occurring on our Southern Border, yet this past August was the second straight month in 2021 with over 200,000 apprehensions. Biden’s open border policies have failed this country and in turn, created the worst migrant crisis this country has ever seen. The images from the migrant facilities in Texas are harrowing, grave, and show the severity of this border crisis. The Biden Administration has denied the press from entering the migrant facilities, blocked drone usage over the Texas-Mexico Border, and both President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris are refusing to answer questions. Customs & Border Patrol Agents are overwhelmed, American lives are in danger, and we have an administration that’s hiding. Biden’s open border policies are failing. It’s time for Joe Biden to return from vacation, address this crisis that his policies created, and take action now. Last week, Gen. Kenneth McKenzie of the Pentagon admitted that an August drone strike intended to target ISIS-K members killed 10 innocent Afghanistan civilians. This heartbreaking tragedy shows President Biden’s failed ability to serve as our commander in chief. The Afghanistan crisis keeps getting worse, and yet the Biden administration refuses to accept responsibility, and hold themselves accountable for their continued grave missteps. Gen. McKenzie announced in a press briefing that no disciplinary actions are expected for those responsible. This is a consequence of weakness in the White House. This ongoing crisis is a tragedy for our nation, and Joe Biden must resign. National Small Business Week highlighted the importance small businesses have on our local communities and our national economy. As the true backbone of our nation, it was a privilege to meet with small business owners in Southwest Florida face-to-face to talk about the issues they are facing, how COVID-19 impacted their business, and how the federal government can help them get back on their feet. Lastly, Erika and I extend our deepest condolences to the family of Gabby Petito. I commend the tremendous efforts of all the law enforcement officers involved, and I continue to wish them well as they investigate Gabby’s tragic passing. Weekly Wrap-Up with

Congressman Byron Donalds

Last week, the House of Representatives stood in recess, which afforded me much-needed time to travel throughout Southwest Florida, meet with local leaders, and tour small business owners of Florida’s 19th Congressional District.

Request of Transcript of Gen. Milley’s Call
Last week, Alongside House Committee on Oversight & Reform Ranking Member Rep. James Comer (R-KY), I sent a letter to Lloyd Austin, the Secretary of Defense, requesting the transcript of General Mark Milley’s alleged phone call with China. This request ensures transparency for the American people, as the integrity of our Republic, lies within these transcripts. Read the full letter below.

National Small Business Week
In recognition of National Small Business Week taking place last week, I was proud to join my colleagues in celebrating the tremendous contributions of America’s small business community that represent the backbone of our economy.

Community Engagement

Join me on Tuesday, September 21st at 7 PM EDT for a Water Tele-Town Hall!

Army Corps of Engineers Col. James Booth & I will be providing constituents with insight on various water projects impacting SWFL, answering questions & talking all things water. Visit my website for more information.

I was proud to join the Career Source of Florida last week for a Veterans Roundtable in partnership with several local veterans advocacy organizations to discuss the need to increase access to mental health resources and ways we can partner together to serve SWFL’s veterans community.

The brave heroes who serve our nation deserve our utmost respect and I’m committed to helping ensure that our veterans have access to every available resource upon returning home.

Modernizing regulations on controlled & addictive substances has never been more crucial. Thank you to Scripps Safe, a pharmaceutical technology company in SWFL, for the discussion on ways we can partner together to prioritize the safety of all Americans.

With Biden in the White House, our small businesses are suffering, & our gun rights are under attack. Last week, I was proud to tour Guns4Less, a female-owned gun store in SWFL, to talk about the necessity of preserving gun rights & standing up in defense of our 2nd Amendment.

I was happy to talk with the members of The Hispanic Vote last week about the need for bipartisanship in Washington, the cultural significance of Hispanic Heritage Month, and American exceptionalism on the world stage.

Last week, I spoke at the Fort Myers Beach City Council meeting to give council-members & citizens an update on legislative happenings on Capitol Hill and how they will impact us here at home in SWFL.

Legislative Updates
What America and the world witnessed with the disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan is inexcusable.

To increase transparency, I’m joining House Committee on Oversight and Reform Ranking Member Rep. James Comer (R-KY) in requesting declassified quarterly reports on Afghanistan reconstruction & Operation Freedom’s Sentinel.

In the Media
Democrats aren’t working with the GOP on this $3.5 trillion spending package.

Last week, I joined Elizabeth MacDonald, host of The Evening Edit on Fox Business, to discuss Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer & Bernie Sanders working in secret to pass their radical agenda. I wouldn’t trust those three with my checkbook, let alone the U.S. Treasury.

Rep. Donalds Joins The Evening Edit

Last week, I joined Fox News Primetime to discuss the Left, Big Tech, & the media colluding to cancel dissent & Americans bold enough to ask questions about the vaccine. Famous rapper Nicki Minaj s the most recent scapegoat for the freedom to think, act, & do for yourself. I thought that was allowed in the USA. Click the link below for my full interview:

Rep. Byron Donalds on Fox News Primetime

Our adversaries are taking advantage of a weak White House to flex their muscles and expand their military strength because they know under Joe Biden, they won’t be challenged.

Last week, I talked to Jan Jeffcoat, the host of The National Desk, to express my thoughts on Joe Biden’s laughable attempt at leadership. Click the link below for the full interview:

Rep. Donalds Talks to Jan Jeffcoat on The National Desk

ICYMI: I talked to Steve Varney, host of Varney & Co., on Fox Business to discuss Don Lemon and other elitist leftist pundits have been bullying, harassing, and shaming millions of Americans throughout this entire pandemic for simply choosing to practice their constitutional freedom – and frankly we’re sick of it.

Rep. Donalds on Varney & Co: Elitists like Don Lemon Have Been Harassing Americans This Entire Pandemic

Serving the hardworking men and women of Florida’s 19th Congressional District is my distinct honor and privilege. It’s time Washington works for our community’s values, and every day I will always strive to ensure your government is working for you.

Sincerely,

Byron Donalds
Member of Congress
