Professor Howell Keiser

Dr. Keiser is an Assistant Professor in the Hamilton School of the University of Florida-Gainesville.

He specializes in 19th Century U.S. History.  His research focuses on the antebellum South, slavery and Civil War era.

He is a graduate of the University of Alabama (B.A. History) and Louisiana State University (PhD in U.S. History).

He was a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the University of Virginia in the Program on Constitutionalism and Democracy in the UVA Politics Department, and a Research Assistant for Yale University and the University of Pennsylvania.

He is the former editor for Civil War Book Review and has contributed to several academic journals, including Civil War History, American Nineteenth Century History, the Simms Review, the Emerging Civil War, the Southern Historian, the Journal of the Civil War Era, the Journal of Mississippi History, and RealClear History.
